Congratulations! You have made the decision to set up a Facebook page for your business. Or, perhaps you are just interested in maximizing your existing page. Whatever the case may be, given the fact that Facebook brings in nearly 1.5 billion active users per month, making the most of your Facebook page is a smart decision.

Building an engaging Facebook page is easier said than done, however. Facebook is extremely competitive, and in order to get noticed and Liked, you need to know how to make the most of the available potential. The tips below can help you get started on the path  towards creating a Facebook page that will bring in targeted visitors.

Engaging Photos

First, make sure you have a recognizable and engaging profile picture. Too often, businesses simply leave this golden opportunity blank. The profile picture presents an excellent chance to build brand awareness, so choose wisely. If you’re a solo entrepreneur, a quality headshot is a good option, but if you have a brand, consider using your company logo.

Along those same lines, choose a cover photo that will garner attention. Your cover photo occupies a tremendous amount of real estate, so choose a photo that is relevant and eye-catching.

Many business owners frequently make the mistake of not taking advantage of the chance to add links to their profile picture and cover photo. This is a great opportunity to include links to your website and help visitors get to know you and your business better.

It’s also a good idea to add a Call to Action button to your cover photo. This is a feature Facebook just recently launched, and it’s a great chance for you to drive traffic from your Facebook page to your website by using CTA options, such as “Shop Now,” “Sign Up,” “Book Now,” “Contact Us,” or “Watch Video.”

Utilizing the About Section

Have you taken the time to complete the “About” section on your Facebook page, or have you left it blank? Many business owners tend to neglect this section, either thinking they will get around to it eventually or because they simply do not know what to write. Yet, this is an incredibly important section because it is one of the first places visitors will look when they are visiting your page. Beef up this section by including descriptive copy that lets visitors know what your page is about while providing encouragement for visitors to “Like” your page. Another important section that should not be overlooked is the Milestone section. This is a great place to include milestones and achievements, including when your business was founded, when products were launched, and when your business has hosted major events or received special awards or recognitions.

Engaging Content

Finally, take advantage of the opportunity to post videos and photos to the timeline on your page. These two types of content tend to be the most engaging and can go a long way toward encouraging Likes, comments, and shares.
