In the last few years, there have been numerous changes in the SEO industry. As a result of those changes, it is now necessary to approach SEO differently. Unfortunately, many SEO firms often fall into the trap of creating unrealistic expectations among clients and thus, far too often, many businesses fail to understand that SEO takes time to work. There are no overnight guarantees. Yet, when working with a SEO firm, all they hear is that they will receive amazing results. Six months later, when their leads have not miraculously increased a hundredfold, they are left feeling as though they were lied to and duped.
Why SEO Takes Time
First and foremost, it is important to understand how SEO works. Quality SEO takes time to demonstrate results. Leads follow rankings. First, you must get the rankings, and then you see the leads. With that said, it cannot be stressed strongly enough that it takes time to achieve rankings. It simply is not possible to create content and expect that your traffic will triple three months later. That is not how it works.
One of the biggest problems is that at one time, that is how SEO worked. With some keyword targeting, making a few tweaks to the existing pages, and getting the link structure in order, and it was possible to achieve those all-important rankings. Things have since changed; however. Over the past several years, search engines like Google have continually made changes to their algorithms to focus on the importance of high quality content. What worked a few years ago no longer works. While the necessary approach to SEO has changed, expectations have not. Today, there are numerous factors that influence search engine optimization and ranking. There are literally dozens of different things that can impact SEO.
Even after performing a comprehensive audit, the process is still not complete. Next, it is important to determine which elements will deliver the highest ROI. While the landscape of search engine optimizationhas definitely changed over the past few years, it is still quite effective. It is important for expectations regarding SEO results to be managed in terms of a realistic timeline, however.
Setting Realistic Expectations
Far too often, SEO companies are afraid to give clients realistic expectations in regards to a timeline for results because they know this is not what they want to hear. What happens is that clients become upset when the results they expected to see are not achieved within the timeline they anticipated.
In instances in which SEO firms do provide clients with a realistic timeline, some clients are quick to turn to SEO companies that provide them with the answers they want to hear even if it is not realistic. Unfortunately, when those firms are not able to live up to their own hype, the client realizes their mistake too late and by that time, it will take even longer to achieve the desired results.
Quality SEO does take time, but the results of sticking with it are well worth it in the end.
